France Clusters becomes partner of the INTERREG project “AlpLinkBioEco” on the circular economy in the Alpine Space

Lyon, 13 July 2018 – The ALPLINKBIOECO Project – ‘Linking BioBased Industry Value Chains Across the Alpine Region’, of which France Clusters is a partner, has been awarded a 2 million euro budget within the Interreg- Alpine Space 2014-20 program.

The 3-year project aims to develop a circular inter-regional bioeconomy strategy, forming the basis for a coherent policy throughout the Alpine Space and allowing for the evaluation, selection and creation of new intersectoral value chains. The identified common strategy will be merged into a masterplan that will be broadcasted at the end of the project. The objectives of the program will mainly affect four areas:

  • Wood
  • Agriculture
  • Food / pharmaceutical packaging
  • Chemistry

Among the partners of the ALPLINKBIOECO project, clusters, universities, business associations, institutions and organizations, belonging to six member countries. In addition to France Clusters there are: Plastics Innovation Competence Center (CH, project leader), Business Upper Austria (AU), Poly4Eml (SI), Pieve Tesino Alpine Studies Center (IT), Lombardy Green Chemistry Cluster (IT), Innovation Hub Trentino (IT), Plastipolis (FR), Confindustria Lombardia (IT), Slovenian Ministry of Education, Science and Sport (SI), Chemie Cluster Bayern (DE), BIOPRO BW (DE), Technologiezentrum Horb (DE), ClusterAgentur BW (DE).

The expertise gained in other EU projects from the Interreg- Alpine Space 2014-20 program, such as DanuBioValNet » Project, will be used for developing bio-based and circular value chains.

The Alpine Space Program 2014-2020 is a transnational program of « European Territorial Cooperation » and, together with 15 other programs, contributes to the improvement of cooperation between the European regions. In this program, national, regional and local actors collaborate on a transnational level in several projects, with a common vision: supporting sustainable regional development in the Alpine region. By contributing to the EU 2020 strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth, it provides stakeholders with a framework for developing, testing, implementing and coordinating new ideas.

The program covers an area of ​​almost 450,000 square kilometers and a population of around 70 million, representing one of the most diverse regions in Europe.

The Member States and the Regions participating in the Program are:

  • Austria;
  • France: France: Auvergne Rhône-Alpes Region (Ain, Ardèche, Drôme, Isère, Loire, Rhône, Savoie, Haute-Savoie, métropole de Lyon), Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, Bourgogne Franche-Comté Region (Doubs, Jura, Haute-Saône, Territoire de Belfort), Grand Est Region: (Bas-Rhin, Haut Rhin);
  • Germany: districts of Oberbayern and Schwaben (Bayern), Tübingen and Freiburg (Baden-Württemberg);
  • Italy: Lombardy, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige, Valle d’Aosta, Piedmont, Liguria;
  • Slovenia.
