Twelve representatives from clusters from North Africa and the Middle East went to Barcelona to discover best practice of Catalan clusters. This was thanks to Booster Track, the support programme of THE NEXT SOCIETY initiative for Mediterranean clusters.

From 19 to 23 November, the 12 North African and Middle Eastern cluster representatives took part in training workshops on the themes of strategy and communication, coupled with visits to Catalan clusters such as Solar Energy Cluster (Solartys), Light Technologies Cluster (SecPho), the Catalan Water Partnership (CWP), FEMAC, Catalonia Gourmet and Beauty Cluster Barcelona.

The South Mediterranean clusters taking part in this training week were Pôle Bizerte (Tunisia), the Olive Oil Cluster of the North West (Tunisia), Cluster  Leather and Shoe (Palestine), Cluster Stone and Marble (Palestine), Tourism and Creative Arts Cluster Jerusalem (Palestine), MENARA (Morocco), CE3M (Morocco) and Oasis500  (Jordan). The South Mediterranean cluster managers were able to acquire new management tools and methods to steer their clusters, identify good practice, work on case studies and also broach cooperation with their Mediterranean and European counterparts.

This Benchmarking Visits & Training week was organised by ACCIÓ, the Catalan government’s agency for business competitiveness, and France Clusters, both partners of the THE NEXT SOCIETY .

Further Benchmarking Visits & Training sessions will be planned by regional agencies support the internationalisation of businesses: AWEX in Wallonia (Belgium), ARII in Région Sud – PACA (France) and CEI Piémont (Italy).

France Clusters is coordinator of the clusters wing of the project: for further info: icommunity@thenextsociety.com.
