The European Summit on Social Economy

The European Commission and the City of Mannheim will jointly hold a European Summit on Social Economy on 26-27 May 2021.

These are new dates for the summit, which was originally scheduled to take place on 26-27 November 2020.

The aim of the event is to strengthen the social economy in Europe, and harness its contribution to economic development, social inclusion as well as green and digital transitions. This will be discussed from three perspectives:

(1)   digitalisation of the Social Economy,

(2)   (social) innovation and

(3)   Cross-country and cross-sectoral collaboration

It seeks to further develop social economy networks in the European Union, foster exchange, present best practices and identify “lessons learned” for the sector and will be an important milestone towards a “European Action Plan for Social Economy”, which the European Commission intends to launch in 2021.

The summit will bring together public and private stakeholders, civil society and scholars with a view to discuss the future, network, inform and increase the visibility of social economy and social enterprise policies by exchanging good practices, success stories and increasing peer learning.

The programme will be co-created by the City of Mannheim, the European Commission and by stakeholders, across the two days.

More than 2000 participants are expected to join and create a dynamic environment for discussions and various exchanges.

In addition to the event, and in preparation for it, a series of monthly online European Social Economy Exchange Events will now also be held, starting from September 2020.
